The ERC Lions had a morale boosting visit from Australia's Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd on Monday 11th July before their clash with the Department of Sport and Recreation.
Minister Rudd was welcomed by Head Coach Peter Ajang and introduced to the Assistant Coaches Reuben and Bella and each one of the players. The team then posed for photos with Minister Rudd who was presented with gifts from the Lions by Peter and Bella and afterwards everyone had a kick around before the Minister addressed the players about the importance of what they were doing for the wider Australian community.
The Lions then settled into the match against DSR, and were on the back foot in the first quarter with two early goals kicked against them. The second quarter was even with two goals a piece, while in the third DSR outscored the Lions 2 goals to 1.
The fourth quarter saw the Lions come back kicking 2 goals while keeping DSR scoreless. In the final 7 minutes, the Lions needed one goal to take the lead but were unable to do it, eventually losing by 4 points. This sets up a blockbuster Harmony Cup against Balga Detached Bombers this Fridayat Barry Britton Reserve, Balga Avenue in Balga.
