“From August 1, local households will be paying an extra 10 per cent on their gas bills, on top of the recent hike in electricity and water bills,” Janine said
“This means that an average family will be paying an extra $52 a year.
“In only three years, Premier Colin Barnett has managed to raise electricity bills by 57 per cent, water bills by almost 45 per cent and now gas by 45 per cent.
“Enough is enough. With a month of winter to go and many cold nights ahead, this will really hurt many families.”
The Office of Energy report has been with the Government since December 2010, yet the Premier chose to give families only 11 days to get ready for the increase.
“This lack of notice for people on a budget is absolutely unacceptable, but given Mr Barnett’s arrogance and heartlessness it’s sadly not surprising,” Janine said.
“As the Minister who sold off Alinta Gas, Mr Barnett should hang his head in shame.
“Mr Barnett has failed to hear the message coming from Western Australian households that enough is enough.”
