The Australian Multicultural Council will select up to 40 ambassadors who would be appointed for 12 months.
"It is important for Western Australian multicultural voices to be heard on the national stage," Janine said.
"People who are active in the community and would like to provide grass roots input to the Australian Multicultural Council and to Government should consider nominating to become a People of Australia ambassador.
"Nominations are now open for communities or individuals to nominate a person or themselves for the role of a multicultural ambassador.
"People who wish to nominate should be community minded and involved in the place they live in."
Ambassadors will attend and report to the Council on four local community events during the 12 months including a Harmony Day event on March 21, 2012.
"People of Australia ambassadors are important and worthwhile positions and I encourage Western Australians to nominate themselves or someone they know," Janine said.
Nominations are now open and close on October 7. Further information is available at www.amc.gov.au
