Janine said locals need to be aware of the Barnett Government’s plans.
“There is no doubt the Barnett Government’s privatisation agenda will compromise the delivery of quality services to Western Australians,”
“Western Australians need hospitals that operate to provide quality patient care, not to turn a profit.
“If these services are not done properly, it could lead to serious consequences for patients.”
Shadow Health Minister Roger Cook said the Barnett Government had ignored calls from Labor and the community to abandon its privatisation agenda to sell of services at the new Fiona Stanley Hospital to private contractor, Serco.
“Health Minister Kim Hames is set to sign a contract with Serco worth billions of dollars, giving the private company responsibility for services including hospital cleaning, linen laundry, safety and incident management, pest control, maintaining health records and sterilisation services,” he said.
“Mr Hames’ claims these are ‘backroom’ services could not be further from the truth.
Mr Cook said the Barnett Government must put an end to its privatisation plan and keep control of WA hospitals.
“If the Barnett Government signs the contract with Serco a future Labor government would do whatever it could to reverse the decision, including include negotiating with Serco to bring an early end to the contract,” he said.
